Info:

If you haven’t come across John B in one of his many musical guises over the past decade, where have you been? This British super-producer has gone on to become one of the most eclectic and unique individuals working within electronic music today. Consistently escaping categorisation, John’s genre-defying catalogue spans the worlds of Electro, PunkRock, Trance and Drum & Bass, and a few other spaces across the bpm spectrum.

John’s career began in illustrious style as the pioneering Goldie picked up on this mild-mannered, blonde-locked science graduate and his distinctive drum and bass productions, and he was immediately signed to the legendary Metalheadz label. Tracks such as the euphoric “Up All Night” became seminal hits and even in the ever changing world of drum and bass they continue to be played and enjoyed today.
John B instantly became a headlining name on flyers across the globe, and his touring schedule has been non-stop ever since. Never more so than today, John B averages in excess of 120 appearances a year, at club-nights and festivals right across the globe.

Establishing his own stable of labels (Beta Recordings, Tangent, Chihuahua and Nu_Electro) to reflect his diverse tastes from liquid funk to Latin, provided the perfect platform for John’s groundbreaking sonic experimentation to develop.
From his studio and label HQ in Maidenhead, UK, John has since made major waves within the wider world of dance music. Having picked up on John’s early forays into trance production, Perfecto label boss and DJ superstar Paul Oakenfold commissioned tracks which ended up alongside the likes of Madonna and Justin Timberlake on the epic “Great Wall” compilation. John has also long worn his love of 80s electronica on his sleeve, way before the fashionistas jumped on the bandwagon. He’s been busy signing hot new electro-influenced tracks for his most recent label venture, Nu Electro & has had support from electrohouse scene favourites such as Larry Tee, Mark Moore & Tommie Sunshine.

John B has managed to secure himself a truly global following, largely thanks to the power of the Internet and a whole host of exciting & original music. It has to be said that John B was definitely one of the first electronic artists to truly acknowledge and make good use of the Internet’s marketing power: www.john-b.com includes everything from his very own personal blog style diary to exclusive upfront audio, videoblogs and outrageous tour photos & make-up/glamour shots. John B’s last promo mix was downloaded in excess of 150,000 times. It’s also important to notice John’s B’s use of the MySpace phenomenon, John B was way ahead of the crowd on this one too! John B’s profile has been viewed in excess of 1,250,000 times and he has 68,000 friends and counting! Be sure to listen to John B’s ‘Stalking You On MySpace’ for the full story!

Info:
The ‘Brookes Brothers’, or Phil and Dan to their mates, have emerged as one of the major breakthrough drum n bass artists of recent years. Raised in London, the two brothers discovered a love for the more soulful sounds of drum’n’bass around the turn of the millenium. It was not long before they began producing in 2002. Fast forward six years and the brothers have already established themselves as some of the most exciting producers on the scene. Their debut 12″ ‘Portal/Desert Island’ came out on Danny Wheeler’s W10 imprint to immediate acclaim, setting the Brookes’ on their road to success. This was followed by ‘Verano’, a collaboration with old cohort and longtime collaborator Subfocus, one of the biggest tunes of 2006. As a result of their hard work, in 2007 the Brookes Brothers were exclusively signed to Fresh and Adam F’s Breakbeat Kaos imprint. Their first release on Breakbeat Kaos was the huge ‘Hard Knocks/Mistakes’, which recieved major radio support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Pete Tong and the Trophy Twins, as well as staple drum & bass DJ’s such as Andy C, Grooverider, and Adam F. Next up they collaborated with another rising star, Culture Shock, together creating the monster track ‘Rework’, one of the biggest drum’n'bass tracks of 2007. 2008 saw the brothers catapulted even further up the ladder with a string of massive releases. Earlier in the year saw their remix of J Majik & Wickaman’s ‘Crazy World’ picked up by Ministry Of Sound’s Data imprint, pricking up the ears of the Radio 1 bods so much so it gained them daytime radio play as well as huge support yet again from the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and beyond. Then onto ‘Tear You Down’ on BBK, the track that saw them reach number 1 in the UK dance charts, with even Sarah Cox giving it ‘Record Of The Week’ status. Now with residencies at clubs such as Fabric and an ever-increasing amount of DJ sets around the globe, and with their debut album set for release this summer on Breakbeat Kaos, 2009 is shaping up to be the year of the Brookes Brothers. You have been warned!!

With the Drum and Bass market in a state of complete over-saturation, it takes originality, class, and an understanding of quality control to get ahead. Having emerged from relative obscurity in 2006, SpectraSoul, have emerged as one of the new-school pioneers on the drum and bass circuit. 2008 saw the release of their much-anticipated underground anthem “Alibi”, which tore up dance-floors worldwide. Alongside this, 2008 also marked the release of SpectraSoul’s “Peninsula” and “The Tube”, both featured on Friction’s Shogun Audio imprint.

The duo show no signs of slowing in 2009, with scheduled releases for Goldie’s seminal Metalheadz Label, Teebee’s Subtitles, D-Bridge’s Exit Recordings, and, of course, further releases for Shogun audio and Critical Recordings.

Info:

There aren’t many artists who can claim to have changed the face of a genre of music, let alone to have changed that face more than once. Ed Rush, however, is an exception to that rule. Ever since his first production outings alongside his neighbour (and infamous owner of No U Turn Records), Nico Sykes, Ed Rush has consistently proven he has the ideas and attitude to transform drum & bass and is never afraid to push that infamous envelope.

Moving through the sounds of hip hop and electro in his early musical years, like many of his peers Ed Rush became fascinated with the burgeoning rave scene that was blowing up his hometown of London. The breakneck speed chopped breakbeats and piles of sub-low bass appealed greatly, and it wasn’t long before Ed Rush had convinced Nico to work on some tracks with him. The first result of their production partnership, of course, being the immense ‘Bludclot Artattack’, an out-and-out darkside jungle classic which marked a new era in hardcore, pushing the music into the realms of what we now know as drum & bass.

Hooking up with another legend of the drum & bass fraternity, DJ Trace, Ed Rush began to hone his style and it wasn’t long before a fresh sound reared its ugly head. Blasting out of the Ed Rush studio setup like a breakbeat bullet, ‘The Mutant’ became another classic track and was swiftly followed by ‘Guncheck’, an instantly recognisable Ed Rush piece packed full of attitude and bashy basslines.

Fully immersed in crafting a style which was to become known throughout the world as Techstep, Ed Rush’s rise to prominence was now inevitable. Releases on Grooverider’s Prototype imprint and Goldie’s Metalheadz all confirmed his place as one of the leading producers in the new school of drum & bass elite. Not only was he making great music, but he was continuing to break new ground with his ideas and production techniques; new ground which would forever change the sound of drum & bass.

However, as we all know, it was Ed Rush’s team up with another great musical mind, Optical, that unleashed upon the world an album, a label and an audiological echo that would inspire thousands of copycat producers and spawn an entire generation of artists who, even a decade later, would still strive to come close to that Virus sound.

Dropping their immense debut album, ‘Wormhole’, upon an unsuspecting scene, Ed Rush & Optical literally created an entirely new set of rules for succeeding in drum & bass: Take a set of tracks considered too edgy for the major players of the time, add your own label and a pinch of self determination and you end up with what is widely regarded as the best drum & bass LP of all time!

Ed Rush & Optical have since moved through three more critically acclaimed albums, ‘The Creeps’, ‘Original Doctor Shade’ and the incredible semi-live project ‘Chameleon’, all with their own individual styles and personalities. 2009 sees them tackle the release of their fifth long player, ‘Travel The Galaxy’ a project which promises an eagerly awaited injection of that classic Virus future funk with a blend of today’s production techniques that will prove hard to resist.
